THIS IS THE MISSION THAT STARTED US
How Our Journey Began
It all began when Dr. George Taylor, a longtime cardiologist at MUSC, saw firsthand the deep connection between nutrition and chronic health disparities. In 2010, he purchased land on Johns Island and founded Sweetgrass Garden—a nonprofit farm dedicated to growing organic produce and delivering it to local food banks. But he quickly discovered that truly nutrient-dense food starts with one critical ingredient: healthy soil. That insight sparked the mission that drives us today.
